The Chapin Park Neighborhood Association (formerly also known as PANA, or Park Avenue Neighborhood Association) represents the Chapin Park Neighborhood. This association exists within the wider geographical limits of the Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc., a larger neighborhood organization and community development corporation.
Founded by residents in 1972, our neighborhood association holds the distinction of being the first in South Bend. Board of directors are elected annually through nominations and a neighborhood vote, as stipulated by the organization's bylaws. The organization has overseen the neighborhood's designations as both a national and local historic district, as well as the organization of various aesthetic improvements and social activities for its residents, such as:
· Installation of historic streetlights on several streets in the district
· Annual events for neighbors
· Fundraising efforts, including a neighborhood garden walk
· A neighborhood email list to inform residents of current events and issues
In addition, the neighborhood association has established ties with the City of South Bend, the Parks Department, Memorial Hospital, Madison Elementary School, the Historic Preservation Commission and the South Bend Civic Theatre, as well as local business owners and merchants.
The neighborhood association warmly welcomes Chapin Park residents to attend its board meetings. Join the email list for information on the next meeting. Join us to talk about neighborhood concerns and plan neighborhood events. To get involved, click here.
